Hi All,
Quick question, what is the best way to put the time of birth into FH. I know it is mainly preference but I was just wondering whether it is best to put it in as it is written on the certificate or put it in in a consistent manner?
I ask because my Great Grandmother's birth cert says 12hr Noon, mine says 10h. 10m. A.M., my daughters 00:43hrs and my Granddaughter 1723hrs. I prefer my daughters 24hr clock with : separator , but wondered if it was better to put it in as it is written.

Re: Birth time
I thought that times were not normally shown, except in the case of twins! Are you saying all your relatives were one of twins? Or are Scottish certificates different from England and Wales?

Re: Birth time
Scottish certificates are different, and include time of birth, I believe.

Re: Birth time
As is often the case it is down to personal choice.
If you are recording a transcript of the certificate in the Text From Source field then replicate the certificate exactly.
In the Birth event, you can use a standard format but the Date field will only allow time to be added as a Date Phrase along with the Interpreted Date, e.g. 12 Mar 1900 ("12:00 am") or you put the time in the Note.
BTW: The 'tentative' GEDCOM V7.0 allowed every Date field to have a Time sub-field.

Re: Birth time
Yes Scottish Birth Certificates do have the time of birth on them, I didn't know that wasn't the case in England as the only birth cert from England I had seen was my wife's grandfather and he was a twin, so I just presumed they were all the same until Mike T said it was generally only twins in England who had the time on themColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021 10:14Scottish certificates are different, and include time of birth, I believe.
Mike,
This was really why I was asking. I am about to set off on the redo of my tree using the DEA templates and wanted peoples views before I started. Sadly not all the information is added on the templates for Scotland (although time is) and none for Australian births, so will have to learn a little about making changes to the templates.
