Witness Selection

Post by Hanning » 05 Mar 2021 02:06

My records window is sorted in Updated order and remains so when I close and then reopen the application, but when I go to add a Witness, the Select Records list is in default order of ID number order and clicking on the headers has no effect. Right clicking and changing the sort order also has no effect. Now using the latest version, I had the issue with a previous version of FH, but sorted it - however I cannot remember how, nor can I find my question about it asked on this forum! I apologise for the repeat...

You are correct that the Witnesses > Add Individuals list is always in Record Id order, whereas in other similar dialogues it remembers the current Records Window order.

However, for me, clicking on any column header in the Witnesses > Add Individuals list does sort by the chosen column.
i.e. If I click the Updated column then the records are sorted accordingly.
Furthermore, that sorted order is remembered independently from the Records Window order.
So next time you use Witnesses > Add Individuals the records are sorted as you left them, even if the Records Window has been sorted differently in the meantime.
FH even remembers the chosen sort order when closed and re-opened.

If the above behaviour is not what you want then report to Calico Pio via http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php

BTW: Your Profile on the right of your posting says you are using Family Historian V6.2

I restarted my computer, reopened the project, and tried again to add a witness. This time, I clicked on every header in turn (which are, for the most part, derived from expressions) and on just one, it sorted. Then all the others would sort as required. No rhyme nor reason but it is working!

That is interesting.
Did it not even sort for the standard columns such as Individual Records, Updated or Record id?
Presumably, the Expression derived columns sort Ok in the Records Window?
Is it possible that the Expressions just take a while to compute and sort? Have you a lot of records?
I have plenty of columns using complicated Expressions but have no problem with them sorting.
Could you post some of your Expressions here and I will see if I can repeat your symptoms?
