moving a project folder...
So, I did a stupid thing, and accidentally placed a FH project into a folder for another piece of software. Before it gets too big, I want to move it. How do I move it safely without causing a disaster?
Thanks in advance.

Re: moving a project folder...
Presumably, your rogue Project is not listed in the FH File > Project Window...
If you have a default setup then the FH Projects live in the ...\Documents\Family Historian Projects folder.
In the File > Project Window... it should say that against the Location: setting.
If your rogue Project is called MyProj then it has a folder named MyProj and has several subfolders and files.
Use Windows File Explorer and move the MyProj folder to ...\Documents\Family Historian Projects such that its file path becomes ...\Documents\Family Historian Projects\MyProj
All being well your MyProj should now be listed in the FH File > Project Window...
If any of my assumptions above are incorrect then don't do anything yet, but tell me what is different.

Re: moving a project folder...
Nothing says MyProj, but it is in my Project Window when I open FH 7.
Not sure what I've done. *sigh*
There are definitely subfolders.
Several of my projects are in the wrong folder.
Do I try moving even if it doesn't say MyProj?
Thanks for your patience.

Re: moving a project folder...
I simply used MyProj as an example because I don't know the name of your Project.
If you tell me the names of all your Projects then I can give more precise instructions.
Are all your Projects listed in the File > Project Window...?
If not, then where are they located and how do you open them?
In the File > Project Window... what is the folder named against Location: ?
Please give as much information about where your Projects are located and their names.
Do you want them in the default location of ...\Documents\Family Historian Projects or somewhere else?

Re: moving a project folder...
I want them in the Family Historian project folder where they belong. And yes, all the ones I've created since updating to v7 are in the wrong spot (for some reason, I put them in the RM8 Beta folder - don't even ask
). All my older projects from V6, are where they belong.
See the screen capture of the Project Screen I've included.
Thanks,
Teresa

Re: moving a project folder...
If I understand correctly you want all the new FH V7 Projects shown in your screenshot to be relocated to the default folder ...\Documents\Family Historian Projects along with all your old FH V6 Projects.
Or maybe it should be G:Teresa\Documents\Family Historian Projects as unfortunately you did not tell me.
I assume all those old FH V6 Projects have different Project names from the new FH V7 Projects?
Presumably, those old FH V6 Projects have been updated to FH V7 format?
If those assumptions are incorrect then don't do anything yet until we have a workable plan.
Otherwise, I think the safest method is to perform the process below for each new FH V7 Project.
Select the first Project and use More Tasks... > Copy Project... and in Location for Copy: enter the desired path where they should belong as This PC\Documents\Family Historian Projects or G:Teresa\Documents\Family Historian Projects
Only you know where they should belong as you did not provide the detailed folder path.
Now click Copy to copy the entire Project folder.
Repeat that for each of the other five Projects.
Finally, use More Tasks... > Project List > Reset Location to Instalation Default
That should change the path against Location: to be My Documents\Family Historian Projects
All your old FH V6 and new FH V7 Project should be listed in the Family Historian Projects pane.
If not, then maybe you need to reset the Location: to G:Teresa\Documents\Family Historian Projects
I'm guessing here as you did not provide the detailed path of where your Projects should belong.
Once satisfied that all your Projects are back where they belong, then you can use Windows File Explorer and delete the six folders that have the new FH V7 Projects names from the RM8 Beta folder.

Re: moving a project folder...
Thanks for the detailed instructions. Sorry for not giving the full path.
All you've said makes sense. And, yes - all the new V7 projects have different names from the V6 ones except the FH Sample project.
Out of curiosity, why do those V6 projects have to have been converted before I can move the V7 ones back into the main folder? I have no problem doing the conversion, I just want to understand as much as I can. I've also had a rough couple of weeks on the family front, so have buried myself in family history, but am also not as with it as normal, hence my slightly scattered responses.
Again, I thank you for your patience and guidance.

Re: moving a project folder...
It is not essential for the old FH V6 Projects to have been updated to FH V7 format.
I was just trying to get a complete picture of your Project arrangements.
As soon as you open them in FH V7 then they will get converted.
Yes, you spotted my deliberate mistake, as the Family Historian Sample Project is a special case.
Do NOT copy that one to your ...\Documents\Family Historian Projects folder.
After all the Project copying and folder deleting is complete, in the File > Project Window... use More Tasks... and Samples > Reset Sample Project to set the Family Historian Sample Project to the FH V7 version.
