Auto-text templates query

Post by ChrisRead » 22 Feb 2021 12:43

Hi Nick,

Me again :)

Been using 7.2 and not found any issues, WORDNUMORD is working as I hoped it would, so I could include it in my auto-text templates as planned. A question arising from this is if I wanted to upload the templates for others to use to the FHUG KB, what would be the most appropriate format. I would assume copy each to a file and then zip them all up as a single package. Is there a 'formal' file type you use for each such as template.aat for convenience.

Thanks for all your efforts, it is appreciated.

No there isn't really a formal data exchange format for this - it is something I'll do one day: what I'd really like is some kind of online app-store idea but I'll never get round to that :). I did create a data exchange format for the census templates (with import/export on the census template screen) but they have lots of different fields, etc. whereas an auto-text template is really just a text box. So the appropriate format is really just to paste the template text in.

The KnowledgeBase only supports Templates for AS stored as Text, e.g. Ancestral Sources Template ~ Census Canada 1906, 1916 & 1921

Yeah, that's what I figured. Ok, I have a couple of tweaks I want to add, then I'll see about uploading so people can rip them apart :) if anyone is actually interested.

Thanks for clarifying Helen - the census templates need to be pasted into an editor and saved as XML files, whereas the Autotext templates just need the text pasting into the big text box on the Autotext Template Editor screen in AS.
