update check and version release notes
Hello all,
I saw in one post someone mentioned 7.0.1.3 was released. i went to help -> check for updates and was told I had the latest revision ... 7.0.1.
I went to the website and downloaded 7.0.1.3 and updated all is good again.
Question 1: where can I find a list of fixes/improvements from release to release? What was fixed in 7.0.1.3
Question 2: was the check for updates error unusual?
Note I am on the 30 day trial. Could the update check may be suspended.
Thank you,
michael

Re: update check and version release notes
CP don’t provide a running commentary on what has been fixed unfortunately. The in-app check isn’t triggered by these minor version updates, presumably to avoid relatively frequent updates as FH7 settles down.

Re: update check and version release notes
When I check for updates, (using the Help menu) it tells me that 7.0.0. which I am using is the latest.
I paid full price so what is going on?

Re: update check and version release notes
Evelyn, the price you paid has nothing to do with it.
CP are releasing small bug-fix updates from time to time, and asking the users who reported the bugs they fix to check that they are fixed, but not announcing the updates more widely. Anyone who buys FH after the bug fixes will get the latest set of fixes when they download the product, as will anyone who checks manually, but the individual updates (as Mark has said) are too small to trigger the automatic update checker.
In due course, I expect CP will release a version which will trigger the update checker at which point everyone will become aware of it.

Thank you. This update has not helped my Covid mentality.

Re: update check and version release notes
Went to the Family Historian website earlier and downloaded the Installation file. Ran with no problems and installed 7.0.1.3 with a properly announced restart.
Now to do same on my main pc having made full backups of files and settings.

Re: update check and version release notes
I know this might seem a dumb question, but where on the website do I find the updates for version 7?

It's the 'standard' download that is being replaced, not a separate update: https://www.family-historian.co.uk/install7

So does that mean we can't get the updates at present without reinstalling V7?mjashby wrote: ↑02 Feb 2021 10:07 It's the 'standard' download that is being replaced, not a separate update: https://www.family-historian.co.uk/install7

Re: update check and version release notes
I believe FH updates are always done by re-installing FH.
In another posting, David Potter asked Ros at CP for a list of fixed issues for each release so far. You can find these here:

Re: update check and version release notes
Correct, but update releases always reinstall the current version. You won't need to re-authorise or anything like that, just run the installer (with nothing else running -- that's good practice anyway) in case a reboot is needed.

It is very reassuring to see a list of fixes. It gives some confidence. Thanks for posting the link

Re: update check and version release notes
Good to see that. Interesting though that neither the list of fixes nor the link to download the latest update seem to be referenced from the FH website, even though they have fairly obvious URLs. Now that registration is mandatory for FH7, I wonder if it is worth CP adding a “Members’ Downloads” page that is accessible only via your FH account?

Re: update check and version release notes
I agree it's odd that there is no obvious way to find the list of fixes from the FH website. However the link to download the latest update can be found by following Downloads>Download Archive, where the first paragraph says "... To download the latest version please go to Install Version 7" with a link. It's not very intuitive but perhaps it will change when they make the latest version an offiical public release.
