Auto addition of <whole record>* incorrectly!

Post by paultt » 28 Dec 2020 16:44

Version 7. Is this an undocumented feature or have I done something wrong?
After importing my v627 project into v7 I have noticed an anomaly! This may have been there in v6, but I cannot check that now.
On import I had a single female person as part of the tree where I had a whole record source indicating that this person had been added via a merge of a gedcom file done some years previously. ( I don't do merges anymore - too much hassle).

Now I have had a visitor to my website submit via email to me, her husband's detail, his birth and death dates and their marriage date and place, and saying that he knows the info is correct, because they are his parents. OK.
I now create a generic source in the AutoSource Citation for the info with the title as the son's Surname, Firstname, his email address within the [[ ]] in the source notes(GDPR and all that), and todays date as the citation date. This has been my normal practice for years under v4,5 and v6. I then enable the Auto Source, create a new husband record, enter the name, birth date, death date, marriage date, and create the record for the son who has supplied me the info. Simple - job done. Clear the Auto Source Citation, and on to the next email with info.

But, before I moved away I looked at the source pane of the new husband's records, and clicked on the <whole record>* by mistake, and have found that ALL the entries I have just made, ALL have the previous file merge source shown as attached to them! Surely that is not right? Very misleading? Does anyone else get this happening?

Either that is a fault or perhaps you accidentally selected the old Merge Source record by mistake?

Can you repeat the symptoms, perhaps using the FH Sample Project?
