I finally managed to get FH7 working only by uninstalling and reinstalling. Everything seems to be fine except that I have lost all my settings and customisations.
No problem, I have backups and I have regularly used the Backup and Restore Settings plugin, though never for restoring. I tried that last night with the latest version and it frightened me to death with all the warnings! So I've decided to take this opportunity to refresh my knowledge of the workings of FH.
I have successfully restored my custom tabs in the Property Box. Heartened by this, I tackled Flags, Expressions and Icons. As someone who works almost exclusively from diagrams, the icons attached to each box are crucial for me.
I started with Icons to indicate Paternal and Maternal lines. Copied and pasted the Data Ref from the Understanding Expressions page in the new KB to mark Paternal line ( %INDI%, Field( FileRoot(), 'INDI.~FATH>' ) . Chose an icon, saved and yay, there's all my paternal ancestors on the diagram! Flushed with success, I repeated the operation with the Maternal line. ( %INDI%, Field( FileRoot(), 'INDI.~MOTH>' ) ) Oops! All my ancestors appear to be on both my Paternal and Maternal Lines! Help, what am I doing wrong?

Re: Lost Expressions and Icons
I have tried those two expressions as Box Conditions on the FH Sample Project and they worked fine:
=IsAncestorOf( %INDI%, Field( FileRoot(), 'INDI.~FATH>' ) )
=IsAncestorOf( %INDI%, Field( FileRoot(), 'INDI.~MOTH>' ) )
Remember they are operating with respect to the File Root and not the Diagram Root so if your diagram is only showing members of your maternal line then they will all get the icon.
Regarding my Backup and Restore FH Settings plugin, there are major differences between FH v6.2 and FH v7.0 customisation options, so the plugin is pointing out the risks of restoring old settings that may upset the new FH v7.0 settings.

Re: Lost Expressions and Icons
Thank you Mike! I tried again yesterday. I am both File Root and Diagram Root, and again yesterday after deleting and re-entering the Data References I got the same result - every single ancestor on both sides of the tree had both maternal and paternal icons attached.
I deleted them and gave up in disgust and opened FH this morning with the intention of recreating the problem so I could send a screenshot. Copied the Data References as before, pasted them into the box, applied them - and of course they worked perfectly!
So I've been happily pottering away restoring all my icons. Data References and Expressions are Greek to me, but with close examination and judicious cutting and pasting I've managed to recreate all my BMD and E/W Census icons. Things look a little different but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Thanks for your encouragement.

Re: Lost Expressions and Icons
Create a Custom Diagram to preserve your expressions and icons customisations in case you need to restore them at some point.

Re: Lost Expressions and Icons
Backups are wonderful preserving that sort of thing.
Try the Backup and Restore FH Settings plugin.
