When I add a new person to my database, only the NAME tag appears to be created. Just to be clear I'm usually adding people via the 'Add Spouse/Partner' or 'Add Child' links on the Main tab of the Property box.
Is there any way that I can get Family Historian to automatically add a GIVN and SURN tag as well. I thought this was already done, but I'm wondering if I've turned off the functionality in any way.
Many thanks in advance

Re: Automatically create GIVN and SURN tags
No Steve, you have not changed any functionality.
The GIVN and SURN tags are not used by FH and only exist on the All tab to allow the claim of 100% GEDCOM compatibility.
They are only intended when the NAME tag does not support a structured Forenames /Surname/ Suffix format.

The NPFX, GIVN, NICK, SPFX, SURN, and NSFX tags are provided optionally for systems that cannot operate effectively with less structured information.

Many thanks for the very speedy response. Glad it's not something I've done!
I can only assume that these tags were provided in the original GEDCOM that I imported when I originally started with Family Historian.

Re: Automatically create GIVN and SURN tags
Yes, it is quite common for those tags to be imported from other products and really should be deleted, because when exported they can upset other products.
See Export from FH6 with notes problems that discusses a similar GIVN and SURN problem where I suggest a solution by using the Clean Unwanted Fields Plugin.
I advise that you run the UDF List Plugin to discover any abnormal tags.
You may even still have some Window > Log Files... that report import problems.

Thank you for the suggestions - very much appreciated.
I've run the UDF List Plugin and didn't find anything - so all good there.
I've also run your Clean Unwanted Fields plugin and can confirm that all GIVN and SURN fields have now been removed.
Once again, thank you very much for the helpful advice.
