* Export to Ancestry: Unwanted 'Notes' that include only Ages

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

Export to Ancestry: Unwanted 'Notes' that include only Ages

Post by Ricardus » 07 Aug 2020 12:52

I wonder if someone can help me with an issue associated with exporting my FH tree to Ancestry.
I have followed the detailed instructions available in the Knowledge Base and on various FHUG posts viz.
-Create GEDCOM file file using File>Import/Export>Export>GEDCOM file
-Run Clean Living Persons Plugin
-Run Export Gedcom File Plugin in (ANC) Ancestry Family Tree mode
-Upload resulting GEDCOM to Ancestry

I want if possible to upload source information. Typically I use high-level Source records with the detailed part of the source within the citation.

After a few attempts I have got this working they way I want, but with one annoying issue that I can't seem to solve: unwanted 'Note' records in Ancestry that include only Age.

For example (see screenshots below). John McIntosh 1861-1864 died on 23 October 1864 aged 3. The Source Record is 'Deaths (CR) Scotland', with the detail of the source in the Where within source field in the citation.
After going through the export/ upload process the Ancestry death fact links to two boxes:

1 'Deaths (CR) Scotland', within which if I click on View is all the source citation detail including crucially what is in the Where within source field. This is good.

2 A ' Note' box, within which is only 'Age 3 years'. These exist for all Facts where Age is input eg ages on marriage, death, residence, occupations etc. I would prefer if possible to get rid of these 'Note' boxes as they tend to clutter up the Ancestry screen, particularly for longer-lived individuals with many facts that include ages. However thus far I have been unable to figure out how to do this. On the 'Other Options' Tab within the Export Gedcom File Plugin there is an option to untick 'Fact Person AGE 2 Move to Fact Note' but all this seems to do after re-uploading to the Ancestry tree is move the unwanted age in years from the ' Note' box to an 'Unsourced citation' box which is even more undesirable.

Any help appreciated!
Many thanks
Richard

Welcome to the FHUG.

You have clearly found your way around most of the advice.
In the how_to:exporting_gedcom_with_multimedia#export_to_website_without_sensitive_data|> Export to Website Without Sensitive Data that you mention, there is the Clean Unwanted Fields Plugin that defaults to settings often useful for Ancestry.
In particular, the following entries will remove all fact Age fields:

Code: Select all

%INDI.Fact.AGE% Fact Age
%FAM.Fact.AGE% Fact Age
%FAM.Fact.HUSB% Fact Husband's Age
%FAM.Fact.WIFE% Fact Wife's Age
Other entries that you wish to inhibit should be edited to have any leading character as in the Excluded Examples or can be deleted altogether. You will need to do that for the Source Citation entries. The default settings can be easily restored.
I think the advice at the top of the Plugin dialogue is quite explanatory.
