Translate Narrative Reports to Spanish with Fact Sentence Templates
Hi! I've applied the expression that was suggested in Expression - is it possible to get son of / daughter of (14382) some years ago for another purpose to change the "son of" and "daughter of" to the Spanish "hijo de" or "hija de", but I find that the original expression "son/daughter of" still appears in the Narrative Report.
The expression suggested then was:
{=CombineText(Sex(%CUR_PRIN%," hijo de "," hija de "," ? of "), TextIf( Exists(%CUR_PRIN.FAMC%), Text( CombineText(,%CUR_PRIN.~FATH>%,,"padre no conocido") . " y " . CombineText(,%CUR_PRIN.~MOTH>%,,"madre no conocida")),""),"",)}

Hi Jorge, welcome to the FHUG.
For the benefit of others, this is the continuation of a discussion on FH groups.io about translating Narrative Reports into Spanish where I said "Warning: Many other users have tried to use Fact Sets to change language and failed".
Which fact have you added that expression to?
It will only affect the sentence produced by that fact.
It will NOT affect the fixed text produced by the Narrative Report when each person is first mentioned.

Thanks Mike. So what to do to affect the sentence coming out of {individual} when the parents are identified?
You know that I am always trying to have the NR coming out with as many words in Spanish as possible to avoid a heavy editing with Word, so I would like to change "son of" to "hijo de" and so on. I thought that the answer in here changed that.

Forgot to say: I added the expression to the birth fact.

If that expression is added to the Birth event Sentence Template it adds a phrase like " hija de John SMITH y Jane JONES" to the Narrative Report but does not affect the fixed text " son of John SMITH and Jane JONES" which cannot be customised.
It is all those fixed text cases that prevent a complete language translation.

Re: Translate Narrative Reports to Spanish with Fact Sentence Templates
Thanks Mike, back to the beginning then. Is the sentence "He/She and So-and-so had the following children" also one of the fixed ones? What is the fact that generates it?
BTW is it possible to see are the facts being used in a Narrative Report (or and Individual Report)? This would be useful to find which can be customized and which are fixed.

Re: Translate Narrative Reports to Spanish with Fact Sentence Templates
Yes, as I mentioned in the group.io discussion, "... had the following children" is fixed text.
It is produced by the FAMS tag 'fact' that the spouse Family record has one or more Children.
Similarly, the " son of <father> and <mother> " fixed text is produced by the FAMC tag 'fact' that the person has parents.
But those are NOT facts in terms of the Tools > Fact Types and Sentence Templates.
All the Event & Attribute facts listed in Tools > Fact Types can be customised in various ways for various reports.
See how_to:narrative_report_fact_sentence_templates|> Narrative Report Fact Sentence Templates.
But as mentioned in the Forum postings and Wish List there is other fixed text that cannot be customised.
e.g. The codes {individual}, {place}, {date}, etc, etc, produce words such as he, she, his, her, in, on, from, to, between, and, before, after, Monday - Sunday, January - December, and many more that cannot be customised.
That is why the Wish List entry was created and explains why previous attempts have all failed. Sorry!
