Can any one tell me where I can find the tool that will list the recent changes made to my tree?

Welcome to the FHUG.

Sorry, but there is no detailed history log available for changes made to the data.

For each record there is an Updated date-time stamp of when it was last changed.
That can be seen on the All tab of any Property Box.
There is also an Updated column on every tab of the Records Window.
Click on that column heading to sort the records into the order they were updated.

The Edit > Undo and Edit > Redo commands allow recent changes to be undone or redone.
But there is no way to obtain details of that internal list, and it is erased when FH is closed.

Why do you ask for such a tool?

Are you aware of another genealogy product that offers such a tool?
I don't remember seeing one in the popular products.

Leagacy has a history feature which I have found useful in the past backtracking to my earlier work.

It is also saved when the program is closed.

Perhaps a suggestion for Calico Pie.

What happens when you click on Go To in Legacy? Does it just show you that persons record or does it show more than that? If it just shows the person record then it is the same as FH Updated in the Records window.

None of the options, including that provided in the Legacy software, which is similar to the screens you can view in FH by simply sorting Record List columns, tell you precisely what's been edited, only which records. I don't recall any software I've used having the capability to provide a detailed list of all the individual data edits made.

You seem to have misunderstood what the Legacy History List provides. The Help says:

Legacy keeps track of the last 200 individuals you have viewed so that you can jump back to them at any time. The history list is saved between sessions and is available each time you use Legacy.

So it is only a list of Individual records you have opened, and NOT a list of "the recent changes made to my tree" as the OP requested.

It is not listing changes at all, but just Individual records you have visited. So, if you had visited or changed an entry on the Legacy Master Source List or Master Location List then that would NOT appear in the History List of Individuals.

Whereas in FH, if you change a Source record, then its Updated time-tamp is set, and that can be inspected on the Sources tab in the Records Window, and the Plugin that Mervyn mentioned will list that record along with other recent changes.

FH does not keep an automatic list or recently visited records, but you can keep as many Named Lists of any combination of records you like, so you can maintain a list of records you are working on and change it whenever you like. The list can include for example the Updated time-stamp, so you can see when you last edited that record.

BTW although FH does not keep a detailed log of changes it is worth mentioning that Ancestral Sources does.

The Legacy history feature is really a breadcrumb trail to the individuals you have worked on. The "Go To" button allows you to jump directly to that person but it doesn't give any details of the additions/changes you may have made to that individual.

Perhaps it is not exactly what was originally asked but it has proved helpful to me stepping back a few places to find an individual I recently worked on rather than searching for that individual.

Migrating from Legacy to FH soon when I get my head around everything so perhaps this is one of the things I will have to do differently.

I have used such a tool on another programme in the dim and distant past but (to answer your question) it would be useful to have such a tool for example where you also have a paper copy of a tree and occasional want to update details - and to be able to see a log of additions/amendments etc to use as an indication of what has changed.

I guess by a paper copy of a tree, you mean printed Diagrams of various branches of your Project on multiple sheets of paper, and you want to know if any changes warrant any Diagrams to be reprinted.

As long as you know the Date each Diagram was printed, then if the Updated date-time stamp for any Individual included in the tree is later than the Date of a Diagram then it has probably changed.

I say probably, because some changes do not affect a tree Diagram. For example, if the Diagram boxes only show a summary of Birth, Marriage, Census & Death facts, then changes to any other facts or updates to Source Citations will have no impact on the printed Diagram.

A detailed log of all changes would be difficult to analyse to decide whether they would impact a Diagram or not.

As Mike said previously you can use the Last Updated date against the Individuals to spot changes and one way out of the box, to see them is to select
View>Standard Queries>Last updated Individuals
View>Standard Queries>Last updated Family Records
from the menu.

Is it possible to access the 'Updated' field for an Individual in a query?
It would so useful to see at a glance when individual was last changed.

You don't even need a Query.
As I said earlier, it is visible on the All tab of the Property Box and also listed in the Records Window where you can sort on the Updated column.

It could be added into the Caption at the top of the Property Box by using the =LastUpdated() function.

It would help to direct my research to those I hadn’t visited for a long while.

With updates to on-line databases, it pays to revisit individuals who haven’t been looked at for a while to find their missing data.

Yes, but you can do that in the Records Window which lists the Updated date-time stamp by default.
Hold down the Alt key while you click the Updated column header to sort in ascending date-time order.
The Individuals at the top of the list were updated longest ago, which is what you wanted.
The Individuals at the bottom of the list were updated most recently.

That is much the same as View > Standard Queries > Last Updated Individual Records but in the reverse order, and with whatever other column details you like to show in the Records Window io differentiate Individuals.

Or are you talking about when you are using a Query to investigate other things and want the Updated too?
I was assuming you wanted a Query exclusively to identify records not recently updated.

Those opposing comments for the same feature suggest you may not fully understand the two proposals regarding Queries.

The use of the =LastUpdated() function in Queries is exactly the same concept proposed by both Jane and Gowermick and can be easily used by yourselves. So it is not clear why you say one is ideal and the other not so good

Sorry if it sounded confused - the ability to see which records were recently changed is useful - whether by query or through the records window (and now it has been hi-lighted to me is obvious!). The suggestion that the ability to see which actual lines within a person's property box had been changed most recently would be ideal if a coding change to the program could do this.
