Second Copy of Software

Post by woods4thetrees »

Hi to all at User Group,
I have version 6.2.6 on my desktop and I remember that the software licence allows for the program to be loaded on a second machine. I used to have it on my laptop but that has now been wiped and passed to another user.
Is it possible to install Family Historian on a Chromebook? And if so, how do I do that?
The software licence key I have is for version 5 before I upgraded to version 6.
Will that still work? I can't remember how I upgraded!
Thank you for your help.
Best Regards to all,
Steph

Chromebooks only really run browser based apps so you can't install Family Historian on it.

If you purchased a download upgrade, you can ask Calico Pie to resend the details for the install if you have lost them. They won't be able to help if you purchased a CD upgrade though.

Crossover from CodeWeavers have a beta of a Windows emulator, available for free download from their website, that allows Windows programmes to run on ChromeBooks. Crossover is an excellent Windows emulator for Mac's and Family Historian runs well under it. As a result it may be worth a try on your Chromebook.

For full details of using Crossover see how_to:family_historian_v6_on_crossover_wine|> Family Historian V6 & Ancestral Sources V5 on Crossover, PlayOnLinux/Mac & Wine but some settings may different on Chromebook.

See also the how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide.

For licensing issues see how_to:family_historian_licence_problems|> Family Historian Licence Problems.
You will need both your FH V5 and FH V6 licences and the FH V6 Upgrade media.

Many Thanks to Jane, Colin and Mike, with my sincere apologies for the delay in responding.

I will put your advice into action.
I have the licensing details - v. 5 was a disk and v. 6 was a download - so I guess I should be OK.
I have seen an emulator in another context that worked quite well on a tablet, so hopefully this will do the trick!

Very best wishes,
Steph
