My wife’s family of Broodbanks came from Croydon but this unknown baby

Without getting birth certificate I do not know mothers full name

I had a similar problem with the legitamate birth of a son, whom later became a "rake" of the first order, specialising in using aliases. After 30+ years of criminality and prison sentences, he appeared (!) to lead a respectable life. BUT and it is a BIG BUT, he married, had a child and was then registered on his death certificate, using one of the aliases from his criminal career!

His only known registered child, married, but had no children and has since died, so I am unable to verify whether the child or Mother knew that their registered surname was in fact an illegal alias.

In another branch of the family a son was born, with a known Mother and an unacknowledged Father. The Mother subsequently married 3 years after the birth of the son and the child used this first husband's surname, until his death. This was inspite of the first husband dying 8 years after the marriage and the Mother then marrying again and taking another husband's surname a further 4 years after the death of her first husband.

Was the child born out of wedlock and then adopted, before the Mother was subsequently married, either to the father or another man?

Was the child's surname registered as being the same as the Mother's on the child's birth certificate?

There is no way of clearing this "mystery" unless you obtain the childs Birth Certificate. But, be aware of other peoples sensibilities, if you go "digging"!

Contrary to what was suggested earlier, a child's Surname is NOT actually registered on a UK Birth Certificate.
Only the child's Forenames are registered, along with the full names of the father and mother.
It is assumed that the child takes the father's Surname if given, or alternatively the mother's Surname.

They should start with the text:

If you look at the profile of themoudie, they'rve been a member for over two years and a good contributor to these boards -- including earlier in this thread. I suspect their email is being spoofed.

There is nothing "spoof" about the private emails that you have received from me. I intentionaly sent them using the "Contact link" given in your "Profile" on this forum. I apologise if this has caused you concern and upset you or possible relatives that was not my intention.

I thought that the contents of the two messages was better to remain between you and I, rather than displayed across this forum, in case the individual named didn't wish to be identified. Hence the final sentence in my last posting to this thread on the forum at 23:24pm on 27 Dec 2017: "But, be aware of other peoples sensibilities, if you go "digging"!"
