Hi,
I'm having problems with inserting media files either by clicking on add media or insert from file.
In most cases I can insert using the <don't copy - link only> but when I "Make a New Folder", e.g Baptisms, with the "Choose Location for Media within Project Folder" I receive the error message "Media Insert Failed" Unable to copy file followed by the file address.
I'm using mainly jpeg and a few PDF files.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Ken

This is possibly a Windows permission problem. If you use Windows File Explorer can you copy a file into your media folder within the Project folder?

HI,
Thanks for the suggestions but I think I may have come across the answer to my problem. When I save a file it usually involves a hyphen/hyphens and the source e.g. London, England Births and Baptisms 1813-1906.
I've found that if I cut most of the file name out I can then insert the media into the new folder. I then paste back the full file name.
Thanks again

Re: 'Media Insert Failed' Unable to copy file - error message
Ken, I have added many Media files with hyphens so that is not the problem.
I suspect the problem may be that the full file path including filename is too long for Windows to handle.
After shortening the filename it is perhaps just short enough to be OK.
Is the full path from C:\ drive down through Family Historian Projects to the Project's Media subfolder plus the media filename greater than 254 characters?
If so it is suggested you shorten your Project name or otherwise shorten the root path.
See how_to:organise_your_files#file_naming|> File Naming.
