Creating A Book

Post by stevesmith » 09 Nov 2017 14:58

When creating a book, photographs appear but with no title. How do I get a title under the photo.

Welcome to the FHUG Steve.
I've moved this to a better Forum for FH questions.
As a newcomer checkout the topics in how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.

How are you inserting the photographs into FH?
How are you adding the photographs into a Book?

Can you post a screenshot of what it looks like.

I presume you are creating a Report for adding into the Book, so first step is to customise the Report as required.
There are various Report Options on the Pictures tab for captions, but usually there is a default caption.
See how_to:index#publishing_reports|> Publishing Reports which has links to further advice.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I will have another try and see what happens. I have successfully transferred my family data etc. via GEDCOM. Everything works well and I have loaded in more family history information including uploading photographs. The photographs have been given a title. Having now found my around Family Historian and also with the help of 'Getting The Most from Family Historian' I decided to go to Publish>Book. This worked well except where a photo appears it is minus the title, unlike the sample MUNRO family provided with the software. I have searched the provided project and mine just in case there is a box which requires a tick but no success so far.

Steve, the tick options are NOT in the Project settings but the Media and Report options.
Initially it is best to leave them at their default settings until familiar with how they operate.

Regarding the Family Historian Sample Project example Book "The Munros in the 20th Century", in Chapter 2 The Family of Ian Stephen MUNRO and Charlotte CARRINGTON, none of the Report photos have their Media Title included in the caption, except for the Midsummer Norton church that is a special case as it attached to a Fact.

BTW: Scroll down to see all my reply ...

Use Publish and select desired Report and then use Report > Report Options > Pictures tab.
OR in the Book select the Report under Current Book Items and use Settings > Pictures tab.
That tab is shown below with its default tick options on right and resultant caption under photo.
Try ticking Inc. Picture Title and maybe untick If Showing Whole Picture Only then Apply to see the effect.

In the Property Box > Media tab, many users are fooled by the Edit Media Item dialogue Use Note As Caption that relates to the box to its left ringed in red below.

BTW:
Which product did you import your GEDCOM from?
See how_to:index#importing_to_family_historian|> Importing to Family Historian for advice.

I add the names directly to the photograph. I do this to all my family photos and also add the link as shown by tatewise.
