Attach Images to Places or Addresses
Hi Forum
I have seen a similar post recently but cannot find the answer - so apologies.
Is there a way to attach images to Places or Addresses? I'm mostly interested in attaching an image which is described and recorded as an Address. But would also be interested in a solution for Places.
Thanks

Re: Attach Images to Places or Addresses
1) You can attach images to Place records, which are linked to each Place field.
2) You cannot attach images to Address fields, but you can attach images to a Fact that has that Address (or Place).
3) You can also attach images to Source Citations linked to any Fact that has that Address (or Place).
Beware that such images will be rendered in Reports in different ways depending which option is chosen.
1) & 2) appear in the body of the Report, but NOT directly associated with the Fact/Place.
3) appear in the Sources section associated with the Source record with a cross-ref from the specific Fact.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the quick answer. Is there any guidance or help on attaching the same Church Image to multiple Baptism Source Citations coming from multiple Sources? IE, unique Baptism Source records > related Source Citations?
Hope that makes sense. Thank you.

Re: Attach Images to Places or Addresses
Unfortunately, there is no simple shortcut for that scenario, which is why some users include the Church address in the Place field, and attach the image to the Place record. That way it is also possible to geo-plot the position of that Church via the Map Window.
You would have to attach the Church image to each separate Baptism Source record, and also any Marriage or Burial source records for the same Church (OR write a Plugin to do it, OR manually edit the GEDCOM file carefully).
The alternative is to create a single Source record just for the Church itself, and add a Citation to that for each Baptism.
See how_to:create_locations_database_details|> Create a Locations Database of Place & Address Details.

Hi Mike
Your first suggestions sounds interesting - I will test this and may come back with further questions.
Thank You

Re: Attach Images to Places or Addresses
If you are talking about including the Church address in the Place field, and you have dedicated Place column parts, then you will need to consider how to rearrange all Place fields to accommodate the extra column part.
Use Tools > Work with data > Places to see how your Place fields are currently organised and how changing Columns... affects them.
The Plugin Rearrange Address and Place Parts may be useful in that respect to add an extra Part 1 column..

Thank you for the heads up on that Mike. I will look into that during testing.
