Undated fact in relation to death event

Post by Linda Reinfeld » 21 Aug 2017 02:47

In an earlier thread 'Format of Sort Dates in GEDCOM to Gedsite Mike posted:

I cannot answer why there is no Pre-Death setting for Normal Time Frame ~ you would need to ask Calico Pie.
However, if on the All tab you move such undated Life Facts to just before Death then they should stay there.
Alternatively, if you redefine their Normal Time Frame as Death they should be repositioned just before Death or Burial.

I just tested (the last sentence) with 5 people. Undated Unmarried tag in TMG. Defined fact in FH as Death before I did direct import. 4 people the Unmarried fact appeared on the all tab AFTER death. 1 person the Unmarried fact appeared on the all tab BEFORE death.
So I don't think identifying a fact as death will result in it appearing before the death fact.

Or maybe I misunderstood, or am doing something else wrong....

Linda, did you try simply moving the fact up on the all tab with the curved arrows, did it then stay there if you reordered with F9?

Linda, I was being economic with the truth and my statement about being repositioned just before Death or Burial was based on the existing Life position of the facts you mentioned, which since they were near Birth would stay before Death.

But newly entered or imported facts with Normal Time Frame of Death will be positioned near (before or after) Death.
An option that may work is to set Normal Time Frame to Life, import the Project, then change Normal Time Frame to Death for those facts such as Unmarried.

BTW: This discussion only works for undated Individual Facts and undated Family Facts follow different rules.
