Birth of son not appearing in facts

Post by afl2 » 08 Jun 2017 19:52

Hi all
Have inpitted my 3 sons birth certificate details via the programme but only one of them says "birth of son" in the family historian facts column.
It just records "birth" for the other two.
In the Family historian to the left of the date in the facts tab, the birth of son entry has a white circle but the birth entries have arrows.
Anyone else had this issue before??
thanks

PS I am using family Historian 6

Arrows mean you have recorded him as a witness, the white circles are timeline facts, so this suggests you have not been consistent in your entries.

Hi Jane
Thanks for replying.
I did enter them one after the other and only the last entry recorded birth of son.
I will re enter them again and see where I have gone wrong.
Thanks again

Could you be more precise about how you entered them one after the other.
You are using Ancestral Sources V5 aren't you?
So must Save in between each entry.

Hi all, sorry for the late response.
Here is how I have entered the data. (Sadly agian the first two children have birth only recorded in fathers property box but my last son has birth of son)
(1) opened FH file in FH
(2) Opened AS then opened FH file in AS
(3) Highlighted my name on right side panel.
(4) Added 3 children to me
(5) Click create birth record
(6) Highlight eldest child in file and click select and individual
(7) Main info tab, place, address, birth date and occupations filled in
(8) click add image and follow instructions
(9) Click link repository and follow instructions
(10) Click on residence tab, untick marriage place and fill in individual residence with auto complete for parents
(11) Click registration tab, registered by father and put in date
(12) Click save to file
No to source text and id.
Seleceted FH programme and informed that the file had changed and would be reloaded.
Upon opening the programme discovered the same issue of the first two children entered as birth but the last child as birth of son.

Hope this helps in explianing what I have or have not done.
Thanks agin for your help

Just and update.
Having checked my wifes entry has highlighted why this maybe happening.
I have recorded myself as registering the first two children and my wife the third.
The file records on my wifes property box, facts tab as the first two children as birth of son but the third child she registered as birth and she was a witness/informent as mentioned by Jane in an earlier post.
This seems to be connected with the filling in of who registered the birth.
I have gone back into options and birth settings and have unticked box for informent, (use witness role for informent)
I will retry agian and will update the post.
Thanks for your patience

Hi all
After unticking the box and re-entering the data, the birth of son has been recorded on the file.
Many thanks

Ah, yes, I see what is happening.
You did not mention that in Tools > Options > Birth settings you've ticked Use witness role for informant (FH6 or later), and until just now that you were entering yourself or your wife as Informant on the Registration tab.

So if you right click on Birth for your son, and choose Witnesses, then you are listed as Informant, and similarly for your wife for the son she is Informant for.

The problem is that you have not created Informant as a Witness Role for the Birth Event.
See ancestralsources:family_historian_birth_death_informant_witness_role|> Family Historian Birth & Death Informant Witness Role that give the solution.
