Hi All,
I have been a FH user for many years and have accumulated many multimedia items over that time.
I have upgraded to Windows 10 and during the process my drive letters for my computer changed. I now have a heap of photo links in FH pointing to Drive J:\My Pictures etc. etc when they are actually in Drive F:\My Pictures etc. etc..
Is there any way I can alter the Drive letter in FH as a batch of media/photos/etc. It will be too time consuming to do it individually.
Photography programs can handle the change in drives so I am assuming FH will be able to as well.
Thankyou in anticipation
Darryl Kirby

Tools > External File Links should do the job for you.

Yes, Tools > External File Links > Auto Repair Links should fix those broken links.
Did you know that you could move those Media into the Project's own Media folder and convert the File links to relative paths that will happily migrate from PC to PC and withstand other path changes without getting broken?
Have you upgraded to Windows 10 on the same PC, or have you actually migrated from an old PC to a new PC?
If the latter, have you migrated all your customisation and preference settings for Diagrams, Reports, Queries, Fact Sets, Records Window Columns, etc, etc?
If not then use the Backup and Restore FH Settings Plugin as advised in how_to:family_historian_migration_guide|> Family Historian V5 & V6 Migration Guide.

Re: Multimedia Records
What Mike says about keeping all your media in the Media folder under your Family Historian project file is good advice. All of my media reside in that folder. Storing linked FH media on other drives/folders is increasing the potential for problems.
When you add media to an FH profile, the program should prompt you to put the media in the "Default Location within Project Folder". Just click "OK" and you should be good to go - no more broken links.

Re: Multimedia Records
OR, you can choose a sub-folder within that Media folder if you want to retain some organised structure to your Media files.

Re: Multimedia Records
I highly recommend this suggestion. I created 4 folders within FH's Media folder: photos, documents, census, and headstones. I use the Export to Gedcom plugin with the TNG option to export to The Next Generation with relative file paths and the same plugin with the LFT option export to Legacy Family Tree with absolute file paths (since on same laptop). Both options work well with that folder setup. The Where Used, External File Linksand Check for Unlinked Media plugins keep my FH project media integrity intact.tatewise wrote:OR, you can choose a sub-folder within that Media folder if you want to retain some organised structure to your Media files.
