Date column in Facts tab of Property box

Post by rogerdavies42 » 13 Apr 2017 15:59

Pleas can anyone tell me if there is a way to permanently increase the size of this column for all Individuals? I appreciate you can click and drag the separator, but that seems to get saved only for the current Individual, not universally. I can't find anything abut it in the Knowledge Base, so any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Roger

It actually seems to get saved for as long as the Individual Property Box stays open.
So if you choose Float Property Box it will stay put as long as you only show Individual records.

Other than that, then 'no' it cannot be permanently increased.

But I am fascinated why you would want to, as the Date itself is limited to 11 characters maximum.

It is not necessary to Float the Property Box. I have the Property Box permanently Docked and the same applies - as long as it remains open and you view only Individual records, the width of the date column is remembered.

Hi Mike, I have lots of dates more than 11 characters, mostly of the form {c. Dec 14, 1947}. Perhaps this is the problem, as when I expand the date column to accommodate them. it will not save but reverts to 11 characters. I am perplexed

You are correct, I had overlooked that with the Approximate, Calculated, Estimated qualifiers the Date needs more characters; either a c. prefix or ? suffix, but on my screen they still fit within the default Date column width.

Have you altered the Property Box display Font?

Another option you may be unaware of is Tools > Preferences > General > Use 'circa' for approximate dates.
If that is unticked then instead of the c. prefix you get the ? suffix that reduces the size and the Dates are better aligned.
Elsewhere, it means Dates have the suffix (app) or (approximate) instead of the prefix c. or circa.

You could change your preferred date format back to the default dd mmm yyyy which is 1 char shorter, in Tools > Preferences > General > Preferred Standard Date Format. I suspect your date will fit in most cases then.

Also I suspect some of your dates must be in as date phrases rather than valid dates as normally the short date used on the Facts tab would show a question mark on the end for computed or estimated dates.

I don't think Date Phrases are the problem as they they don't display anything in the Facts tab.
