Good morning: I am a new user, coming from an Apple environment to a Windows environment as far as Family History is concerned (no-one has convinced me to fully transfer across because of the ease of connectivity and security) and have a couple of questions before I download the programme and start researching again.
I have been using Family Tree Maker on a Mac, so can I import my tree from this programme or will I need to transfer using the conventional Gedcom?
Second question rotates around media. Obviously media gets transferred using Gedcom, but will Family Historian recognise the links and allocate the photos to correct individuals or will I need to allocate them individually?
Thanks for your help
Regards

Re: New User
Welcome to the FHUG.
As a newcomer I advise you study how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers starting with the Documentation & Tutorials but not forgetting the other topics.
It is only possible to transfer from FTM via Gedcom with linked Media.
See how_to:import_from_family_tree_maker|> Import from Family Tree Maker (FTM) for details.
I don't recall anyone migrating from a Mac version of FTM to FH before.
The Gedcom should be OK, but I have doubts about how the links to Media files will work.
There may need to be some global editing of those link file paths to convert to valid paths in the new PC environment.
But FH does have a Media link repair feature, that should work as long as the filenames match.
