* Complicated diagram Version 5

Hi,

I wonder if you can help me.

My relative 'charles' married three times and I can easily show all marriages and children. However two of his wives were sisters, who were married before and then returned to their previous husbands and in one case had more children. In the meantime, one previous husband remarried and had children! It doesn't end there! One of 'charles' wives, previous husband's new child married one of 'charles' children. I said it was complicated.

I should like to show this complicated diagram but can't seem to do it. Is it possible to 'go back' from a wife' to add the previous marriage and then show the husband's second marriage and children.

I completely understand if this is not possible - it has taken me years to understand it!

You simply need to create an all relatives chart for the "main" man (or possibly one of his family records with one of the sisters.

Then use insert into diagram to add extra diagrams for the wives (you could probably add a chart for the Father of the Sisters and then turn off the bits you don't want).

Once you have crafted it remember to save it as a Chart so you can recall it when you need it.

That certainly is a complex family relationship and will take some experimentation to display well.

I found that I got the most understandable trees as follows.

1. Select Charles and his Wife who was NOT one of the sisters, and create an initial All Relatives Diagram.
2. Use Insert into Diagram > All Relatives Tree and select both parents of the sisters.
3. Use Insert into Diagram > All Relatives Tree and select Charles' child & spouse who was child of the sister's other husband.

Several people get shown more than once, but the alternative of trying to incorporate as many relationships as possible into one combined tree results in too many duplicates linked by coloured ribbons to see the wood for the trees.
