I’m trying to create a gedcom of my main ancestors only, siphoned off from my main tree. (I need to do this to upload to Ancestry to help my DNA matches find our common ancestor.) I do all my research in four FH Projects, one for each line. I’ve just managed to copy these and merge them together so I’ve now got a big tree of 4000+ but I don’t know what to do next! I can see what I want in the Ancestor diagram but I don't think you can turn a diagram into a gedcom. I’ve also got myself very confused reading up about a Split Tree option which seems to involve deleting branches but I’m hoping there’s an easier way for a beginner?

Main Ancestors for DNA matches
Sorry if this has been asked before but I’ve spent all morning searching through the Knowledge Base and old posts on the Forum and can’t find it.

Would spend every waking hour researching my ancestry if my family and friends allowed it!

The simplest way is to use File->Import/Export->Export-Gedcom and the select who you want by use of a Query. In your case use the Ancestor Query and should then give you exactly what you want.

See how_to:exporting_gedcom_with_multimedia|> Exporting a Family Tree with Multimedia which despite its title gives good advice even when you do not want Media included. (This type of question has cropped up several times recently so I will have to change its title and its advice to cater for excluding Media.)
Having got your Direct Ancestors Project then use the Export Gedcom File Plugin with the Ancestry option otherwise your FH Gedcom file will probably not be recognised.
