Gaol Record - How best to record information

Post by David Potter » 03 Nov 2016 11:33

Hi Forum

I have a Gaol Record for an ancestor dated 1848 from the Quarter Session of Ruardean, Herefordshire, England.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how best to record this? I can't find any pre-existing suitable Fact Type to help with this.

You are correct David, there is no standard Fact, so you must use one or more custom Facts.

In this General Usage Forum perform a Search for criminal to find several useful threads on the topic.

I recommend the approach offered by NickiP in Crime and Punishment Record FH6.2 (14227).
It uses just one custom Fact but uses labelled meta-fields in the Note field to customise the Sentence.
This technique also exports well in Gedcom to other genealogy products.
See how_to:narrative_report_fact_sentence_templates|> Narrative Report Fact Sentence Templates for details of using Custom Fact Fields.

See Fact for 'admittance to a home'. (14274) with suggestions for dealing with 'residence' in institutions.
