* Printing with silhouettes for living or private individuals
Printing with silhouettes for living or private individuals
I would like to produce a print file (pdf) with any living or private (using flags) file displayed as silhouettes . This is to collaborate with two other researchers without giving away other peoples data.
I have read about producing a web site (one day get there) although wondered if the print option is a possibility for sharing electronically internationally.
Perhaps a big ask just wondering whether there are any approaches available in FH.
regards Jonathan

Re: Printing with silhouettes for living or private individuals
Are you talking about Diagrams or Reports?
I am confused about what you want to avoid giving away.
Other peoples event data is probably far more sensitive than pictures.
Can you clarify your thinking please.
In Diagrams it only seems possible to omit all Pictures completely.
Diagram > Options > Pictures tab Preference = None.
In Reports use the Report > Options > Privacy tab settings.

In diagrams you can select the box(es) for which you wish to display a silhouette instead of a picture, then right-click and use Format and set the picture preference to None and tick Show silhouette.tatewise wrote:In Diagrams it only seems possible to omit all Pictures completely.

However I suspect that what Jonathan wants is to replace the data in the box with a silhouette. To remove the data, the text scheme would need to be edited to make each line conditional on the non-existence of the Living or Private flag.

Well Lorna, I never knew that option existed!
The Text Scheme editor for the <picture marker> appears to have the Flag Condition option, but it does nothing!

Lorna is correct in as I would like to replace the data and picture with a silhouette.

Re: Printing with silhouettes for living or private individuals
Jonathan, I believe you want to 'hide' data in Diagrams for anyone with either the Private or Living flag set.
It is trickier than it first sounds.
If you want to use Diagram > Options then a snag with Text Schemes is the data can only be conditional on one Flag.
But I have a cunning plan.
You can have a Box Conditional Expression that sets the Box background Fill to White for either Flag.
e.g. =IsTrue( Exists(%INDI._FLGS.__PRIVATE%) or Exists(%INDI._FLGS.__LIVING%) )
The Text Scheme can then have three <Font change markers>:
1) Sets the Font colour to Black by default.
2) Sets the Font colour to White if Private flag is set.
3) Sets the Font colour to White if Living flag is set.
Then the White text on the White background is invisible!
That just leaves the persons Name.
To get Silhouettes you will have to manually replace each Picture as described earlier.
Alternatively, remove all Pictures via the Pictures tab as described earlier.
Save the whole setup as a Diagram Type for future use.
I have realised that if the Box Conditional Expression sets the Box background Fill to Black then the Black text is immediately redacted without any changes to the Text Scheme.
An alternative option is to use the Clean Living People Plugin.
First you must export your Project to a Gedcom file.
Then run the Plugin on that Gedcom file to eliminate data based on Private or Living flag settings.
Diagrams will then omit that data, but Pictures will still need to be handled as above.
We can supply more detailed instructions once you have decided which might be your preferred method.

Re: Printing with silhouettes for living or private individuals
I will try the clean living plugin as that would appear to be far simpler.
Re: Printing with silhouettes for living or private individuals
Clean living plugin worked well and the genda is indicated by the colour of the text "living". All good, thank you.
