'Lost' Standard Facts

Post by rodit » 04 Jan 2016 05:44

I have 'lost' the list of Standard Facts (birth, death, census, etc.) from the Add Fact drop-down box. All I have are Custom Facts .If I open Fact Types and tick Show Hidden they (the Standard ones) are listed, but the Fact Set column shows <none>, the Visible column shows<undefined>, and Time Frame column is blank.
I think this came about as follows: I had downloaded v6.1, but had some problems with my PC (not related), so reset it prior to the problem. FH came back as v6 and it was not until today that I found out this thing about the Facts.
How do I get them back - apparently I cannot create a set and call it Standard.

All assistance would be gratefully accepted

Roger,

It looks like the folder that holds the standard facts may have been deleted from your computer. You may have to reinstall Family Historian over the top of your current installation.

See the following post:

Facts (11502)

EDIT: If you use the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin, the STANDARD folder should be in the folder \My Documents\FH\Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings\Family Historian\Fact Types\ or whatever name you might have changed it to in the plugin. Check the plugin to see what you actually named the folder.

Yes, it is probably best initially to just re-install FH V6.0.4.
You may have to go back to your original FH V6.0 download or CD, before upgrading to V6.0.4.
You may need both your V6 and V5 licence keys.
See how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> Family Historian Installation Advice for full details.

That should reinstate any missing Standard files, including Standard Fact Sets, but any customisations of those Standard files will be lost.

If you have used the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plugin, then this is the time to use it to Restore from the Backup and get back all your Custom files and any missing Standard files (in their customised state).

Mike,

If all that is missing is the Standard folder under Fact Types, couldn't he just copy the folder from the plugin's backup folder to the Fact Types folder in Calico Pie's ProgramData?

Yes Bill, he could, but if that is upset then there may be others that need restoring.
Running the Plugin is probably quicker than copying using Windows Explorer, and certainly more reliable, especially if unfamiliar with what needs copying from where to where.

Mike,

Good point. I was just thinking that copying the folder or running the plugin would be easier than reinstalling FH.

Thanks,
Bill

Thank you, gentlemen.

I guessed that I may have to re-install, but the Plugin made the difference.

All back to normal. Custom files, included

Regards

Roger
