According to the information on this TNA page

the records were kept by the NHS for more than 50 years and name changes (and presumably deaths) are recorded. When I looked up my mother she was listed with her maiden name, first married name (1941) and second married name (1953) so certainly some updating had taken place. Also despite being born less than 100 years ago she died in 1989 and was listed unredacted - I am waiting until Feb 16 to look at the full record.
