Age entry query
I have just converted to FH 6 so please excuse me if this question is too obvious>
I have obtained death certs for 2 children who turn out to be twins. Born prematurely they died shortly after. The death certs record them as 48 and 60 hours old. I should like to enter their ages on FH as on the death cert rather than 2 and 3 days but the programme won't allow me to. Everytime I enter it as hours it converts the age to years. Is there anyway around this? Thank-you

Re: Age entry query
Hello, welcome to FHUG.
The problem you have is a result of the fact that FH is designed to be compliant with the GEDCOM specification for handling genealogical data. This specification allows age to be entered in years, months, days, younger than a certain age or older than a certain age, 'child', 'infant' or 'stillborn'. If you open the Age Entry Assistant by clicking on the little box at the right hand end of an age field you will see these options available. Unfortunately it does not include age in hours (or weeks, which are sometimes found in old documents).
The best solution is to enter the age in days, or perhaps as 'infant', and add the extra details in the note field for the event. The note can be included in reports so the information will be visible. Another option is to edit the narrative sentence for particular event in the individual's Property Box. However this will only affect the output in narrative reports and not in other report types.

Re: Age entry query
frami, do you use Source Citations of documents to support your Events?
If so, then the Source record can hold a full transcript and image of the Death Certificate, which can appear in Reports, and clarify exactly the original details.

Re: Age entry query
Hi there
Ann - also a new user to FH. Just updated to 6.2.2 from TMG and enjoying it. How do I enter "Of full age" from marriage certs? Is it the same answer as above? ie Use a note. Or could it be added to the list of age options - it certainly happens a lot in my family.
Thanks
Ann

Re: Age entry query
You can enter > 21 yrs which is what Full Age is I believe, or simply leave the field blank and enter the details in the transcript.

Re: Age entry query
Welcome to the FHUG, Ann. Yes, Of full age is usually interpreted as > 21 yrs.
Exactly where you enter the transcript depends on how you cite source documents.
It could be the Text From Source field in the yellow Sources For citation pane with the Marriage Certificate image linked to the citation (Method 2).
Or it could be in the linked Source record Text From Source field with the Marriage Certificate image linked to its Media tab (Method 1).
If that makes little or no sense, then as a newcomer I advise you study how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers and in this context especially Sources Methods 1 & 2 and Ancestral Sources. This latter companion program makes light work of the task of capturing new source document facts & source citations.

Hi All
Thanks for this - been making use of it a lot. But remember (as in one of my cases) "Of full age" was used if they wanted to hide their age as they were under age (naughty great granddad.
