Hi,
I'm new to this particular program (v.6) and have a basic query that I haven't been able to find an answer to so far... I have multiple birth facts and would like to choose which one is treated as primary and displayed in the Main tab of the Property Box. Currently whichever is the last entered is treated as primary. Any assistance much appreciated.

Hi Kate, wlecome to FHUG.
The short answer, I'm afraid, is that there is no simple answer to your question! I know that some other software programs encourage the use of multiple birth and death events, but the recommended approach in FH (though not obligatory - ultimately it's up to you) is to have no more than one birth event and one death event for each person, on the basis that nobody can be born or die more than once. Diverse evidence relating to the date and place of the event can then all be cited as sources. If the evidence is inconsistent then a date range may have to be used for the fact, and the conflicting evidence can be summarised in the note field for the fact.
You might find the discussion in this topic useful: Incorrect lifespan dates in Focus window (12402)
It stems from the same issue of multiple birth facts, and if you read through it all and see various people's points of view it might help shed some light on the issue and help you decide how you want to proceed.
By the way, I think you will find it is not necessarily the last birth fact entered which is taken as primary, but the first birth fact chronologically.

Re: Set primary facts in Property Box
Any Fact shown on the Main tab, such as Occupation, Birth, Death, etc, will be the 1st instance of that Fact as stored in the Record.
The order the Facts are stored in the Record depends on how they have been entered and sorted, and whether they have Dates.
Most often they are in chronological order, especially if Tools > Re-order Out-of-Sequence Data has been used, but this is not necessarily case.

Thanks Mike and Lorna for your help - guess I'll have to rethink how I enter that data!
