Multiple project backup

Post by wigansaint » 11 Feb 2015 10:35

Until now I have concentrated on my own family project, but recently I started to do family histories for other people. When I try to save a backup of the individual projects they are all saved into one backup folder although I have given the backup folder a different name in the preferences menu for each project. Is it possible to get around this and save each project backup in its own folder?

The Tools > Preferences > Backup tab options affect all Projects in all Accounts on the PC, so there is just one shared Default Backup Folder.

However, each Backup does have its own Compressed (zipped) Folder with a unique Project related name.

Apart from changing the Default Backup Folder each time you change Project, the only way to choose the Backup folder is to use the File > Backup/Restore command, and select the folder in the Save dialogue.
You would then ignore/disable the prompts for Backup on Close.

There is a Filename Suffixes for Backup Types (12132) New Wish List Request that could be taken a step further to define a folder per Project.

What is your thinking behind needing a Backup Folder per Project?
