Help please.
I'm getting myself tied up in knots regarding a "correct" way to record/enter sources in V6. After having to put aside my research for over a year, I've returned and upgraded to V6. As the number of records for my family is relatively small compared to many, I've decided to start from scratch and thoroughly go through all my data and get it entered as best as it can be. Now my confusion arises from the new icon for automatic source citations. Yes, I managed some sort of method in previous versions, but now I cannot fathom out what is happening. For instance, after entering details from my son's birth certificate and then moving to the root person (me) the certificate's details are still visible when I toggle the source citation button on and off, even though they are linked correctly. (I think). So, and I know it's probably a dumb question, but what would really help is this; a kind of a "walk through" step by step guide to how people get their sources entered. ie: do you link media first, and what about entering the text from source? Is this entered at the top, or in the property box, or is a case of cut and paste? Apologies for such a lengthy question but I would like to get on top of this with greater confidence.
Thanks in advance - yours very confused.
Derek

Re: Sources in V6
Derek, could you please update your FH Version so it appears in the right-hand panel.
At the very top of this FHUG page click User Control Panel, then on the Profile tab select Family Historian Version 6 at the bottom and click Submit.
I suggest you take a step back and spend some time investigating data entry methods.
Have a look at how_to:key_features_for_newcomers|> Key Features for Newcomers.
Especially the Documentation & Tutorials, Sources Methods 1 & 2, and Ancestral Sources.
Many users apply Ancestral Sources to capture source documents using mainly Sources Method 1, and the AS Tutorials will give an insight into how things are structured, even if you decide not to use AS.
Practise with the Family Historian Sample Project and if you have more specific questions please ask, but there is no absolute right or wrong way.
