First Names in Witness Sentences

Post by D-W » 05 Jan 2015 16:32

Is there a way to confine the names of multiple witnesses to first names? For example under the Census (family) Event I have generated a Witness Role - Census (living with parents) - which I use to list all the children recorded in a census return.

I then use the Witness Sentence:

{individual} was recorded in the Census taken {date} for {_place} as living with {his/her} parents {other(plural)=principal}, and {his/her} siblings {role=Census (living with parents)} at {address}. {=GetFieldText(GetContextItem(WITNESS_LINK),"%~.NOTE2%")}

To give:

"He was recorded in the Census taken on 30 March 1851 for Islington, Middlesex as living with his parents Hezekiah DOWELL and Hannah DREW, and his siblings Harriett DOWELL, Charles Edward DOWELL, Henry Albert DOWELL and Thomas DOWELL at 4 City Gardens. The family shared the house with another family of 8 making 14 in all. The Census gives no indication of the size of the house."

This is rather cumbersome and what I would like to see is:

"He was recorded in the Census taken on 30 March 1851 for Islington, Middlesex as living with his parents Hezekiah and Hannah, and his siblings Harriett, Charles, Henry, and Thomas at 4 City Gardens. The family shared the house with another family of 8 making 14 in all. The Census gives no indication of the size of the house."

Is there any way in which I can generate the sentence that I would like to see?

I have looked through the options and the Help, but there does not appear to be an easy way to achieve that at present. Sorry.

By using Data Refs you could get the Given names of the parents, and ALL the siblings, but not just the siblings at the time of that Census.

However, see the idea below under WITNESS_LINK

FYI:
I think the {role=Census (living with parents)} should be {other=Census (living with parents)} because the former will list the Individual as their own sibling.

Using {=GetFieldText(GetContextItem(WITNESS_LINK),"%~.NOTE2%")} requires the same Note to be repeated in every Witness. It would be better in the Census local Note, but there seems to be aproblem with accessing that via {%FACT.NOTE2%}.
However, the {=GetFieldText(GetContextItem(WITNESS_LINK),"%~.NOTE2%")} does offer a workaround for the sibling Given names, by listing them in the Witness local Note, and if necessary using GetLabelledText().
