* Import of Source Elements from TMG

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

Import of Source Elements from TMG

Post by jbtapscott » 16 Dec 2014 09:58

I have been tinkering with various import options in to FH 5 and now FH 6 (Direct and Gedcom) over the last month changing my TMG data / formats as I go along so as to improve the import, but have found that the Direct import never brings in any of the Source Elements on a Source record (viz."fields" on a Source record). The Gedcom import gets them but that is because the TMG Gedcom export includes them (albeit by concatenation into the Source Title).

Most of the default Source Types in TMG come with a number of Source Elements, so it is not just my subsequent content changes that have caused their omission. These Source Elements include (what is to me) important information about the source data (eg Parish Records Colection ..... or Version No, etc etc)., so I would need them in FH. Has anybody successfully imported this data via the Direct Import method and / or found a similar problem? Thanks

Please report those omissions directly to Support at Family Historian.

Calico Pie are aware of some TMG import issues and are keen to resolve them in an update to FH V6.

See http://www.family-historian.co.uk/support/faq-tmg under Does this include everything?

Done!. I held off initially reporting it as, if somebody else had encountered and reported this, I didn't want to be wasting Calico's time raising duplicate issues :D

Don't worry about duplicating reports. I suspect that if several users report the same problem, then Calico Pie will bump it up the order of things to fix.

I reported a similar issue yesterday. I particularly noticed that "Call Number" for census records had disappeared. A quick investigation indicated that element "Document" (which I have used for GRO BMD references - so I have plenty of them) also fails to import. Presumably it's a general problem.

Source elements are now imported from TMG as labelled notes within source records. This was added in 6.0.3. See http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downl ... ee-upgrade for a free update for V6 users.

We've tweaked this in 6.0.4. Previously, custom source elements in custom source types were not getting the correct labels (they were just labelled as "Source Element"). That has now been fixed.
