report window and property box
In the settings, I have the option for the Report/Book Window set to Close it for the Default Property Box Action When Workspace is Opened. Despite this, when I run a report, the property box is opened along with it. I have the property box set to Docked.
Am I misunderstanding this option? Is there a way to get the report window to open without a property box?
Thanks,
Bill

Re: report window and property box
This might just be a function of the new "remember how it was option".
Make sure you only have one Report open, close the property box while on the Reports window.
If you change a Preference it will not take affect on already open windows. So it's worth changing them and restarting to check if it's now working.

It's not you. It's a bug. Some of the lines are mixed up in Preferences - i.e. the settings don't go with the label (3, 4 and 5 are wrong, I think - but you can check this by experimentation). Thanks for reporting that. It will be fixed in 6.0.0.3.

Re: report window and property box
Simon,
6.0.0.3 seems to have partially fixed this. Now if I am opening a new report window and there are no other report windows already open, then what is specified in the preferences for the Default Property Box Action... option seems to work.
If I already have a report window open, then the option is ignored.
If the report window that is already open has no property box displayed, then the new report window also has no property box displayed when it is opened even if the option says to Open it.
If the report window that is already open has a property box displayed then the new report window also has one displayed even if the option says to Close it.
I'm not sure if this is the way it is supposed to work or not. The preference Open Workspace Windows Remember Property Box State is unchecked.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: report window and property box
Bill - I can't reproduce this. It seems to work fine whenever I try it.
Just to be 100% clear, can I just confirm that you definitely understand the different between opening a brand new window (which is what the "Default Property Box Action When Workspace is Opened" column is about), and re-using an existing one? If you re-use an existing one (i.e. one that already has an icon in the Navigation bar) neither of the 2nd or 3rd columns are applicable. Sorry if you already knew that. I just wanted to be quite sure there was no confusion about that.
If you are confident that something isn't working the way it should (have you read the Help for the Workspaces tab incidentally, because that explains what the options are supposed to do) can you confirm exactly what settings you have for Report/Book Window in the Workspaces window? If you're opening a new window, are you doing that because you've set the 'Re-use' option to 'No'? Or did you lock all other report windows to prevent them being re-used? If you expected the Property Box to open, did it open? If you expected it to be docked/floating - was it?

Re: report window and property box
Hi Bill - looking at the Help it does NOT look up-to-date. Sorry about that. That may perhaps be the problem.

Re: report window and property box
Hi Simon,
I think I understand the re-use concept. In my example I was using two different report windows.
This is what I was doing that seemed odd to me although it may be the way it is supposed to work.
I had the option for Report/Book Window set to Close it in the third column.
I ran a report which opened the first report window. There was no property box displayed.
I wanted to see something about the individual, so I clicked on the Property Box icon in the toolbar which displayed a property box in the first report window.
I then ran another report which opened a second report window. There was a property box displayed for this one.
I would have thought for the second report that no property box should be displayed because the option was set to Close it. Maybe the fact that the first report window has a property box being displayed overrides the option?
Here is how I have the Workspaces preferences set.

Re: report window and property box
This is fixed in 6.0.2 in that the second report window opens with no property box. I'm not sure if it is an intended result of the fix, but now the first report window property box is also closed at the same time.
