Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

No media imported

Post by Linda researcher » 06 Aug 2014 10:32

Hello, I currently use FH 4.1 and am awaiting delivery of an upgrade disc to FH5. I also use FTM 2014 and have successfully exported my tree file to my desktop. From their I have imported the file Gedcom 5.5 into FH 4.1 but although there are lists of photographs they have no title or location. I have read a similar post where on FH5 the problem has been overcome.

I have followed instructions to the letter but without success. I have a notepad entry of FH exceptions which appear to refer to the photographs.

Can I please ask for help in finding the photographs. A large box with a cross appears in both the individual entry and the multimedia section.

Thank you.
Happy hunting.

Once your upgrade disk arrives and you have installed it, download the V5.0.9 upgrade and try the import again, it should automatically fix the problem with the file tags on the FTM import.

Try using the instructions at how_to:import_from_family_tree_maker|> Import from Family Tree Maker (FTM).

Thanks tatewise. It was those instructions I followed to the letter. As Jane says I shall wait until my upgrade to FH5 disc comes, will then update it and retry. Thank you for responding.
Happy hunting.

Mike, FYI, pre 5.0.9 FH does not convert the FILE tag on Objects to _FILE, I did a plugin to fix the links, but you can't run it on 4 obviously, Calico changed the import on 5.0.9 to do the convert.

Re: No media imported RESOLVED

Good Morning, pleased to say that disc for FH5 and book "Getting the most from FH5" arrived this morning. I've installed the upgrade and updated software to 5.0.9.

Started from scratch to export a couple of files from FTM and all went well. I've deleted the old projects for these two trees so now have completely up to date data on FH.

Not sure if it made a difference but I left FTM open whilst I added the two projects.

All is well that ends well.

Thank you all for your help. No doubt I shall be coming back during the course of time.

Kind regards - Linda
