Tribal Pages to TNG
I am in the process of transferring from Tribal Pages (TP) to TNG - after viewing recent comments on the Guild of One Name Studies - it appears to be more in line with what I want.
I now have my TNG site set up and have imported my first gedcom. However(!) as a novice and not having done my research properly, I have just spotted the Plug-in that FH offer to transfer gedcoms - oops!
Additionally, I had previously added all my photo's, documents etc directly onto TP instead of using the facility of FH! I now want to put all my media etc onto FH so that when I do an update to TNG using the plug-in, all info would be updated together.
My question is - What is the best way of transferring all my media to FH -and any other useful tips for this novice?
Derek

Re: Tribal Pages to TNG
When you run the plugin it will create media folders and thumbnail folders for TNG, as well as creating a gedcom modified to match TNGs loading style (it will "cut out" the individual images where you have used link to Face.
You can then just upload the media folder to the trees photos folder in tng using FTP and the gedcom via the TNG import method.

Re: Tribal Pages to TNG
To be precise Jane, has answered the question of how to transfer GEDCOM & Media from FH to TNG using the Plugins:
Convert File Links followed by Export Gedcom to TNG.
Your question of how to transfer Media from Tribal Pages to FH is not so easy to answer.
I recall that you rebuilt your FH Project from Tribal Pages no so long ago (Computer Crash (11257)).
When you did that, is it possible that Media could have been transferred along with the GEDCOM?
Unfortunately, no members have recently transferred from Tribal Pages to FH so there is little to go on.
Try exporting the entire GEDCOM and Media files from Tribal Pages and create a New Project using similar techniques as last time.
But this time include the Media files as explained in how_to:v4:understanding_projects|> Understanding Projects and the FH Help page tips referred to.
Otherwise, you may have to resort to adding each Media file one by one.

Re: Tribal Pages to TNG
I have created a free account on Tribal Pages and investigated its capabilities.
Without upgrading to a Standard subscription account I cannot experiment with the Backup to GEDCOM feature.
However, it appears that Photos are kept in Albums and can only be linked to People and not Sources, etc.
I suspect that the Backup to GEDCOM does not include Multimedia Records to link Photos to People (Individuals).
It is not at all clear how to extract/download the Photos from Tribal Pages to your PC. Perhaps you know how?

You're quite right, I did have a "crash" problem - but I did not have any media involved in that crash - it was already all on TP. I (currently) only import gedcom (no media) from FH to TP.
Hope that clarifies that point?
Derek
PS I forgot to tick "Notify me when a reply is posted" - should anyone who posts a question automatically be notified of any replies?

Nothing is automatic Derek, so you must always tick the Notify me ... option.

I could find no way of exporting Photos (the only TP media) from TP, unless you know better. What is the best way of transferring all my media to FH

Re: Tribal Pages to TNG
Many thanks for trying anyway. I guess I will have to upload all my photo's from my pc to FH, link them to individuals, and then export from FH to TNG using the Plug-in.
I was hoping that someone had an alternative "master" plan.
Cheers,
Derek

Can you please clarify that - I have added a few photo's now to the FH programme and linked them to individuals - when I use the plug in (Export Gedcom to TNG), media (photo's) do not show in TNG?
Sorry to appear thick!

Re: Tribal Pages to TNG
Yes, there are several steps to the process if you need to export your entire database including all media photos:
It is all the files in this folder that need to be uploaded to the TNG website using FTP.
- In FH use File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File and Add All then click OK
- It defaults to saving in Public folder, but I advise you create a separate TNG folder for future use.
- Give the exported Gedcom file a suitable filename and click Save.
- Answer Do you wish to view the exported file? with Yes.
- In this new FH window use the Convert File Links Plugin to export your photos.
- Now you can use the Export Gedcom to TNG Plugin.

Thanks Mike. I've now done that.
All I have to do now is to learn how to use Filezilla!
Thanks again.

Re: Tribal Pages to TNG
Mike/Jane,
I have now completed the export to TNG and, despite my site listing the 58 photo's (it took approx 5 mins to migrate on FTP) I cannot see them - and get a "404" error message. Is that something that is easy to fix?
