Just recently when starting FH I get no response for at least a minute until the menu appears.
Using Task Manager I can see that McAfee On Access Scanner shoots to around 50% and over 100MB.
The menu eventually appears (several copies if I am impatient and try starting another copy)
Does FH access every file for every project in the menu?
One of my projects has a lot of Multimedia (mostly JPG) sources I was wondering if they are being scanned.
The media folder also has a PDF and a DOC.

Re: Start up problem
This is a virus checking problem really, you can get around it by telling FH not to cache thumbnails on start up in Preferences, but I would be tempted to exclude your media folder from on access scanning in McAfee (or use a more efficient antivirus scanner, but I guess you must get McAfee for free).

Re: Start up problem
Bill, when FH opens any Project, by default it creates a thumbnail image for every Media file in that Project.
This can be prevented in Tools > Preferences > General tab Advanced button, and untick Auto-load Thumbnail Images When Opening Project.
With that setting there may be a short delay when displaying Multimedia while FH creates the thumbnails.
The bigger question is why has this just started happening?
Have you changed your anti-virus software or its settings?
Have you added a large number of Multimedia images to your Project?
Anyway another solution is to exclude your FH Project Media folders from McAfee.
Most anti-virus tools have a setting that allows specified files and folders to be excluded from the on access scan.

I've now used McAfee settings to exclude the FH program as suggested in an earlier post and that seems to have done the job.
The auto thumbnail setting had no effect so I don't think it's the media files.
What processing goes on between the Flash image going and the Project List appearing?
This is where the delay occurs. No problem starting other programs.

I suspect it's one you will have to pass to McAfee, I stopped using it years ago as it does this sort of thing. You could try reporting the issue to them. The splash screen to Project Window is when the program loads everything so I think excluding the FH program folder is the best bet.
