I've never had to consider editing sources until my recent Laptop problems!

I appear to have lost most of my sources, but there are some that it may be possible to save! If I use Tools, Work with Data, source Types I can only see my recent (2 days) sources. If I go to add a source (citation) to a particular individual, all my sources are there (mostly garbled) but some may be "recoverable"? I would appreciate your views.

I attach a snap shot so that you can see what I mean!

Work with Data only lists Source Types and in your screenshot the Type column is blank so does not contribute anything.

I am not quite sure what you mean by garbled or recoverable, but they can certainly be extensively edited, and some have large numbers of Citations (i.e. are cited by other records).

You can see all your Source Records in the Records Window on the Sources tab.
Double-click any one and its Property Box will open, where everything can be edited.

BTW:
The Records Window allows you access to all your different Records but you may need to use Tools > Preferences > Records Window > Record Type Display Options and set them all to Always show in order to reveal all the tabs on the Records Window.

Thanks Mike - much clearer.

Again I attach a snapshot (for what it's worth) of the garbled sources - in the Records Window - now expanded. I say for what it's worth because they all quote "0" Citations whereas at one time I'm sure there must have been a good number of each.

Again, I'd be interested in your views.

Hi Derek

I don't know if it is any help but your source titles contain text formatting which is reminiscent of html tags. If this is a result of an import you may need to ensure that the exported GEDCOM is in plain text.

That last point is valid - but your Date Phrase data had similar HTML encodings.

Those Source Records only have a Title field and no other data fields.
If you open their Property Box then it should confirm that.
Select any black Title and either double-click, or right-click and choose Properties, or View > Properties, or hold Alt key & tap Enter key.

To explain some of the hieroglyphs:
< means < (just as in Date Phrases)
> means >
ABBR is a GEDCOM tag for the abbreviated Short Title but not in a recognisable position

But if you were expecting lots of other data such as Author, Text From Source, Notes, or linked Multimedia then I am afraid to disappoint you.
