Individual Age

Post by Stevebye » 10 Feb 2014 16:45

Nick.

When entering Individual Age I forgot to enter the 'd' at the end. The Info box popped up and no matter how many times I click on 'OK' it wont go away. Same when using the X in Red Box.

Had to use Task Manager to shut down AS.

The problem seems to be more subtle than that.
Initially I could not repeat the fault, however many times I tried.
But then, without the error box displayed, I switched programs with the faulty Age present.
The error box appeared as I switched, but then could not be closed.

Thanks Steve, quite an odd problem but one that will be fixed in the next version.

Best wishes

Nick,

Tested this, although I no longer get the error message it defaults to years if 'm' or 'd' is not entered after the number. i.e. if age is 20 days and I enter just the 20 the age is shown as 20yrs in the Facts Tab. Could you program a 'catch' for this?

Steve, my reaction is that is exactly what FH does in the Age box, because the suffix is optional and always defaults to Years.
Often people are baptised as older children or adults where Years would be correct.

I agree that's what FH does but I thought it would be helpful if AS caught it before saving the entry.

It is not quite clear to me exactly what you want AS to catch.

That y,m or d has not been entered after the number in 'Individual Age:' box.

Would you expect that check to apply to EVERY Age box in Census, Marriage, Death, Burial, etc, or just for the Baptism Individual?

Just to clarify that Steve is commenting on an unreleased beta version of AS that he is helping to test. I should also say that being able to enter an age in years without y after it is by design and I'd be irritated if I had to enter y after every age, particularly in census records where there are lots of ages to enter!
