Accessing the Web Site

Post by Christine » 05 Aug 2005 16:32

I have always managed to get to FHUG from within Family Historian programme, on the help file where it says 'family historian on the web', for somer reason I can't do this now, an error comes up on the screen saying it can't locate the browser. I use internet explorer same as always,. I would like some help if possible, although I can access the site through the web it was always useful to go through the actual program.
Thank You Christine

The link in FH, normally takes you to family-historian.co.uk not to FHUG.

I think this problem is often to do with the file association for web links getting set to the wrong program, have you tried any new web browsers since last time the link worked?

I think this came up on the mailing list and it was something to do with file assocaitions, but I can't find it in the archive.

Perhaps someone else will remember, it works fine for me, so I suspect something has changed on your computer set up.

Hi Christine,

It does sound like an association problem. Try this: Open 'My Computer', and then select Tools->Folder Options, and then select the File Types tab. This should bring up a window containing a list of all the file types your computer knows about. Scroll down the list until you find HTM. Make sure it thinks its a HTML document. Click on it and make sure that the information at the bottom of the window says that it will open with Internet Explorer. Check the same for HTML file type as well.

If that's all OK, then let me know and I'll suggest a few other things (which are more complicated, so I won't go into them unless I have to).

Hope this help
Graham

I finally managed to sort this out, simply by resetting my internet options to default settings. Thank You for all the suggestions.
