descendant tree outlines in HTML/text and privacy

Post by Guest » 30 Aug 2003 01:59

I posted this to the email list by mistake... I think this is the better place for it.

I use Family Tree Maker and have tried Master Genealogist but neither meets my needs. Does Family Historian perhaps do any of the following.
1)  Generate fully editable text or HTML descendant outline trees from any given individual in a Gedcom file?
2)  Enable me to privatize (make anonymous) automatically all individuals below a certain age (when generating a descendant outline)?

Are you aware of a way to accomplish either of these things easily in combination with Family Historian software?

Thanks for letting me know.
Miles

The answer to the first question is an easy yes. You can create a report and then save ita rft or html or text and edit it in your favourite program.

For the second part as FH uses gedcom it is very easy to make a copy of your file and then run it through Res Privita or GEDCLEAN to remove any data you want hidden.

If your intention is to make web pages you may also find the article about making web sites which I wrote useful.

You could also download the demo version of FH from
http://www.family-historian.co.uk

and see if it suits your purpose.

Jane,
Thanks very much.  I reviewed that privatization program and it does seem to do what I want.

I wish there was a mainstream database program that handled that stuff routinely.  It seems like a basic function that should be present in any genealogy program.... but I've yet to find it.

I'm glad to see FH does the html output at least.

I appreciate your help.
