I just had the very exciting job of merging two branches of my family tree when I found that two patriarchs were brothers. I'd kept these two branches as separate files so used the Compare/Merge option according to instructions. All went smoothly, with one exception: I had a small subgroup of the family in one of the files - three individuals who I have linked as siblings, but don't have parents for as yet and can't link them in to the main tree as yet, either. On Compare, these individuals showed alongside possible counterparts on the other tree, but these links were not correct, so I 'unmatched' them and proceeded.
All else went fine - but these three individuals still ended up being attached to one of the existing families. I tried redoing this three or four times, but still FH insisted that they should not be unlinked orphans and allocated them a mum and dad in the merged file.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a glitch? I've solved it manually now, as there were only three of them, but if it affected a lot of records, one might not notice immediately and it could be very misleading.
Thanks!
Diane

MERGE
Hi, you should be able to use the unlink option, to unlink the families, I needed to do so after a merge the other day, FH made one of my family his own g-g-grandfather. It may be worth sending the comment and or samples to Calico as, as a user group site things mentioned here may not reach the coders.
One to watch out for thanks for pointing it out.
