Reference numbers on diagrams

Post by ganstey » 19 Apr 2005 13:08

I'm trying to display the FH reference numbers for each person on the All Relatives diagram. I have modified the templates for all the box types, and refreshed the diagram but the numbers only appear on some of the boxes.

For example I have Susannah [Ref no 34]. Her father has a reference [35] but not his wife. Susannah's brother Samuel has [37], but not her brother John. I've looked at the property pages for Samuel and John but can't see why they should appear differently.

I'd like to use the reference as a link into my paper files.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

What code are you using for the reference numbers?

=recordid()
or something like
%INDI.REFN[1]%

Refn is a custom ID and not all people have to have one.

Did you remember to change the default entry.

If you upload your text scheme I can try and spot the mistake

I'm using this:

%INDI.REFN%
%INDI.NAME:PREFERRED%
{picture}
=LifeDates(%INDI%)

Tried changing to =recordid() but that just given the record number, not the custom ID, which is what I'm after (I've got a prefix that I want to retain). What determines whether someone gets a REFN?

They need a custom ID, check all the All Tab and ensure a custom ID is listed.

If it is then double check the default has the REFN field as its the default one which would be used for brothers.

Thanks for that Jane.

Still don't understand why some people have them and other don't. If I've got to add them manually its going to take me a long time to check through everyone.[frown]

Where did they come from originally?

Fh by default does not use them

You can easily do a query to find all people with out a custom ID.

just add rows if field is null.

I think I'm beginning to understand what's going on. I have on occassion imported my gedcom file into Family Tree Maker. I think at some point I must have exported back out to gedcom, and am now using that version. I think FTM has inserted them.

Sorry for the confusion. Looks like a session of text editting is in order to make the file consistent.
