Pictures in Individual Reports

Post by rodit » 28 Jan 2013 01:04

I am attempting to tidy up my records by attaching copies of B, M and D certs to the relevant Events - I previously had these in the Individual Multimedia. When I set out an Individual Report, these certs. are added to the Individual Picture list at the end. Unless I show every picture for that person, the B and D certs do not appear against the event.
There is a tick box to include Events as Individual Pictures, but nothing to enable them to be shown separately.
Is there a different way to handle these pictures?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers
Roger

Personally I attach certificates as media against sources, as that's what they are. They are then shown with the sources at the end of the report.

See the guides to Using and Recording Sources for details.

The reason for recording such documents as Source Records is that they provide several Facts.
The Source Record is then cited by every Fact derived from the document.
This method is far superior to linking the Multimedia image to each Fact.
e.g.
Each Birth Certificate typically provides the following Facts:
  • Name of individual
  • Birth Date & Place
  • Name of father
  • Occupation of father
  • Residence of father
  • Name of mother
  • Residence of mother
each of which would cite the Source Record for that Birth Certificate.

Similar scenarios apply to Marriage Certificates, Death Certificates, Census Returns, etc.
Many FHUG members use Ancestral Sources to enter Census, Baptism, and Marriage sources (with Birth, Death, Burial, and Probate in the pipe line).

I am waiting for AS to introduce Births and Deaths - have already inserted Baptisms (where I know them) and Marriages, as well as censuses. It was just that if I print a record WITHOUT sources, the media does not appear, unless it is linked to the event as well as the source.

I think you have already discovered all the FH options:

(1) Pictures
All the Multimedia attached to an Individual Record or any of its Facts will be displayed grouped together as Report - Pictures for the Individual near the top of the Report.

(2) Sources
All the Multimedia attached to Source Records will be displayed against each cited Sources entry near the end of the Report.

The only technique would be to use (1) Pictures and then Save Report As > Word-Processor Document (RTF) and reposition the pictures in a word-processor such as MS Word or OpenOffice Writer.

Thanks Mike
I hadn't thought of that, but it works well with a little bit of formatting.
