All Relatives Diagram add additional spouses

Post by jsphillips » 16 Oct 2012 18:15

I have an all Relatives diagram with Root member being a surname of 'lord'
Several non Lords in diagram have married several times and only their 1st or primary marriage shows. Is there any way of adding into the diagram any additional spouses of 'non surname Lord' basis.?? As some of these people want a copy of this diagram with both their spouses shown' ??
Thanks for any help

All Relatives Diagram add additional spouses

Either centre the diagram on the people themselves and the spouses will be shown, or just add additional trees to the chart centred on those people. If you do the later remember to save it as a custom chart.

All Relatives Diagram add additional spouses

In my experience, if the multi-marriage Individuals are Ancestors of the Diagram Root Individual/Couple, then most of the spouses are shown in an All Relatives Diagram.
It is only the spouses of the spouses of such Ancestors that are not shown.

If however the multi-marriage Individuals are Descendants of the Diagram Root Individual/Couple, then far fewer spouses are shown.

Please give some examples of the relationship between the missing spouses and the Diagram Root Individual/Couple.

Also, using a comparatively young Diagram Root Individual/Couple, where most of the tree is Ancestors, includes many more 'cousin' branches than with a comparatively old Diagram Root Individual/Couple, where most of the tree is Descendants.

What you are asking for is an Entire Pool Diagram, where everyone in the same Pool, however distantly related, is shown in the Diagram.
Vote for Wish List entry Entire Pool Diagram.

All Relatives Diagram add additional spouses

Post by jsphillips » 17 Oct 2012 10:45

I thought I had posted a reply so excuse me if this comes thru twice.
The Main All relatives diagram is from a (surname) Lord and shows 4 generations.
In the process a Lord in generation 3 married a 'Hadfield' who had offspring naturally as Hadfield (shown on chart)He married a Mary Lees who married twice..once to Steven Hadfield (shown on chart) and once to a Michael Keating (NOT SHOWN). She has helpewd me with some of the research and would like a copy of this tree but with her 2 spouses shown. I attach a copy of part of the tree. Jan infers that I can add another family tree to this chart but I do not want that showing as an extra, I only want that 1 extra box added. Is there any way please ??
Thanks for any helpImage

Unfortunately there is no one-click solution, because as I explained, the spouses of spouses of Ancestors are not shown.
Steven HADFIELD is a blood Ancestor of the root LORD, and his spouse Mary LEES is shown, but her spouse is not.

Vote for Wish List entry Entire Pool Diagram that would solve your problem.

You could try making Mary LEES and her hidden spouse the Diagram Root Couple, but I suspect the rest of the tree would be unsatisfactory.

The only workaround, as Jane suggested, is as follows:
1) Use Diagram > Enable Moving/Resizing and select Fixed Point mode.
2) Select Roger HADFIELD, click Set, and drag Steven HADFIELD left to make room for Mary LEES spouse.
3) Select Mary LEES and use Diagram > Insert into Diagram > Descendant Tree with Generations Down: 1.
4) Drag this new tree to sit perfectly over Steven and Mary, adjusting the size of boxes as necessary.
5) Use Diagram > Options > General tab, and untick Save as default, then untick Check for duplicates to hide the coloured ribbon linking the 'duplicate trees'.

You may need to repeat the above sequence until you get the layout just right.

Finally, use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Family Historian Chart to simplify the task in future.
When this Family Historian Chart is redisplayed, the diagram will be updated, and may require the inserted tree to be repositioned.

Thanks Tatewise and Jane for your help.Your solutions are cumbersome . I have now voted for the Pool diagram and I will put a space on the original diagram and draw in by hand.
