I have loaded the Ancestral Sources plugin successfully but cannot use it as I get the error message:
Error: creating log file folder, Ancestral Sources can not start until this error is corrected. Error: Access to the path 'C\users\Bill\Documents\Ancestral Sources' is denied.

Re: error creating log file folder in Ancestral Sources
Bill, it is a common misunderstanding but there are two components to Ancestral Sources:
I guess you have recently installed the Ancestral Sources program.
By default, it creates an Ancestral Sources folder in your Documents folder.
That is just like the Family Historian Projects folder created by FH in your Documents folder.
Therefore, those two folders should be listed in your Documents folder nearby each other.
Use Windows File Explorer to check that is the case, and review their access rights as follows...
Right-click on the Family Historian Projects folder and choose Properties then open the Security tab.
Repeat that process with the Ancestral Sources folder and compare the Permissions for Bill in the two folders.
Let me know what you find.
- Ancestral Sources Data Entry plugin downloaded from the FH Plugin Store.
- Ancestral Sources companion program installed from ancestralsources:index|> Ancestral Sources.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
In my original post you can see that the error message states that access is denied to C\users\Bill\Documents\Ancestral Sources.
This folder does not exist when I check in file explorer.
My Family History Projects folder is located in C:\Our_Documents\Family Historian Projects. No Ancestral Projects folder has been created here.

Re: error creating log file folder in Ancestral Sources
Sounds like you have an unconventional filing system organisation, which may confuse some programs.
If you ever need to reinstall FH it will expect to be able to create C:\users\Bill\Documents\Family Historian Projects.
It is a long time ago when I installed the Ancestral Sources (AS) program.
I suspect it needs to be able to create C:\users\Bill\Documents\Ancestral Sources in order to get started.
C:\users\Bill\Documents should exist if you are signed in as Bill to your PC.
So it should be possible to create the Ancestral Sources folder there.
If necessary, create those folders temporarily.
Once AS is running you can move the Ancestral Sources folder to C:\Our_Documents\ and update the Tools > Options settings for the Folders paths in AS.

Re: error creating log file folder in Ancestral Sources
I created the folder manually in the location it was expected to be and after adjusting the security settings it appears to have worked in FH. I will read the getting started notes and practise on the sample project.
Many thanks for your help.
