marriage records

Post by KiwiPeterHill » 10 Apr 2020 23:44

How does one find the date/year of a marriage??
I have parties names and Parents initials
I am assuming its between say 1938 and 1944 in Fielding New Zealand. NZ BDM was no help.

all parties are passed now, so no harm in posting names, I hope.
marriage - Joyce Harford to Eric William Johnson.

Because the New Zealand Government restricts access to such 'Historic' information, i.e. marriage information is not released online until 80 years after the marriage event to protect living people (including direct relatives of the deceased), you are restricted to any Newspaper announcements and/or information which may have been posted by family members on the usual research sites, plus possibly burial memorials, published funeral/burial records and announcements which might include some indications of a couple's marriage/children.

Have you checked the guidance on accessing "non-Historic Records" at: https://www.bdmonline.dia.govt.nz/NonHi ... ecords/FAQ
which suggests you might be able to gain some access more recent records, but you have to prove your identity and the records cannot be accessed directly online.
