Named List query

Post by Jessie 888 » 09 Mar 2020 13:42

Apologies if this is a daft question but I can’t find the answer anywhere else. I’m working on a Named List of 168 individuals who are in my tree and whose DNA tests confirm our ‘paper relationship’. I’ve worked out how to add a column showing our relationship but what I’m trying to do now is to add one more column where I can list our common ancestral couple … like Henry Brenton and Fanny Old. Is that possible on FH or should I save the list (somehow?) to Excel where I can manually work on it there? Sorry but I’m stumped and not IT-savvy enough!

No, I cannot think of a way to add such info into a column.
But you can add those Family records to the Named List interleaved with the Individual records.
So you would have each Individual record followed by the common ancestral Family couple record.
You can use the up/down black arrows top right to get them into the desired order.
Then use Lists > Keep Current List Order to preserve the interleaved order.

If you update the Relationship to Root column Expression to:

=TextIf( RecordType() = "I", Relationship(FileRoot(),%INDI%,,), Relationship(FileRoot(),%FAM.HUSB>%,,) )

then it will show the relationship for each Individual and each Husband of the couples.

Many thanks, Mike. I'll have a closer look at that tomorrow when my brain is in gear!

You might find this useful

I do it this way as I don't always know how they all join up.

Just a quick update. I found a solution that comes under the 'simple but works well for me' banner! I've just created separate named lists for my main ancestral couples. So now, whenever I find the connection with my DNA match, I just add their Individual Record to my main DNA list and also to the specific shared ancestors named list. Very happy (as always) with Family Historian! :)
