Family Historian 6 'Find'

Post by Reivergirl » 23 Feb 2020 11:09

Since installing Family Historian 6 and searching for my Ancestors on 'Find' then this is more than useless for me.

I search for their name and on Family Historian 5 it would come up with date of birth etc - now it comes up with their name & 'Record Id'.

Now I have loads of people with the same name and can no way remember their Record Id but in general I can remember around which year of birth and their relationship.

In fact the 'Find' button for me trying to find my named ancestors on FH6 is as much use as a 'Chocolate Teapot' !! :(

Is there any way I can change the results to Name, DOB, and relationship. That would mean ancestors are easy to find.

Any help greatly appreciated please. :D

Have you tried using the Filter in the Records List? You can customise the columns displayed in the Records List to display e.g. their relationship to the root and life dates (Right click on any of the column headers and choose Customise). Combined with the Filter, that can make it very easy to find the person you're searching for.

Following on from Helen's reply, this is how I have things configured at present...showing just a few of the Donald Macleods I need to navigate!

It's fairly easy to get it set up...right-click on a column header, then choose 'configure columns', and away you go!

And if you enter From Year and To Year in the Filter then the list is even shorter.

Thank you both very much. :D

I hadn't thought to use that as I have always used the 'Find Record' through the button with the binocular sign on it if I wanted to find someone and it has always worked well for me until updating to Windows 6. Then I started to despair.

So back on track again - thank you. :D
