Project deletion issue

Post by Valkrider » 06 Jan 2020 11:15

I have decided that I will tidy up my projects and get rid of those that I no longer need. Everything went well until I try to sort out this one.

The date and time for the highlighted file indicates that this project has not been touched since 1971 which is clearly incorrect. The folder link is to the project that I want to keep. Checking with File Explorer there is only one Lefever_UK folder.

This is on my VM so is a full Windows 10 install.

Is there any way to remove this project from the list without deleting the project that I must keep or should I just forget about it?

Helen

Only 1 gedcom but I have Lefever_UK.fh_proj and Lefever_UK (1).fh_proj so I suspect that this is where the problem is. I hope it is as simple as deleting Lefever_UK (1).fh_proj ?

I'd back it up first but yes, I suspect it is.

I suggest you compare the contents of Lefever_UK.fh_proj and Lefever_UK (1).fh_proj
They are small plain text files, but hold more per-Project parameters than they once used to.

There should certainly be only one .fh_proj file per Project folder.

BTW: 01/01/1971 00:00 is the default timestamp when FH cannot find a GEDCOM last Updated timestamp.
That may be because an imported GEDCOM has none, but in this case there is no Lefever_UK (1).ged GEDCOM file.

The two project files contained very similar data. The (1) had a 2017 filestamp date and had one row less data than the one without the (1) which had a date stamp of yesterday when I last used the project.

I took a chance and moved the (1) file to a different folder. It has gone from the project window and the proper project opened fine. I did a full backup of the project just in case.

All now seems resolved.

The (1) indicates that at some point the folder was copied and the (1) is the copy. That is why they contain very similar data. The timestamp is clearly wrong as you say, possibly indicating that the copy was made when your computer clock was temporarily out of sync.

I explained that timestamp on Monday.
01/01/1971 00:00 is the default timestamp when FH cannot find a GEDCOM last Updated timestamp.
In this case that is because the Lefever_UK (1).ged GEDCOM file does not exist.
But can also be where an imported GEDCOM has no CHAN tag Updated timestamps.
